System Settings | Adaptor - USB Ethernet

USB Ethernet

  • Enable USB Ethernet*: This setting enables the controller to use the USB port as a second network interface, via a USB-Ethernet adapter.

Connection

  • Cellular Modem: Enable this option to use a Protege DIN Rail Cellular Modem for communication. When this option is disabled, the controller will communicate over a USB-Ethernet adapter.

For instructions for setting up the Protege cellular modem, see the Protege DIN Rail Cellular Modem Configuration Guide, available from the ICT website.

USB Ethernet Configuration

  • Enable DHCP: When enabled, the controller will use DHCP to dynamically allocate an IP address instead of using a static IP address. There must be a DHCP server on the network you are attempting to connect to.

The IP information below will continue to display the last static IP configuration, even when DHCP is enabled.

  • IP Address*: The IP address that will be used for the USB-Ethernet connection. This must be different from the IP address used for the onboard ethernet connection.

  • Subnet Mask*: Configure the netmask to allow access to the appropriate node on the subnet. By default this is set to a value of 255.255.255.0.

  • Default Gateway*: Configure the gateway to allow access to a router for external communications beyond the subnet to which the controller is connected. If the controller is connected directly to a router, set this to the internal IP address of the router.

  • DNS Server*: The IP address of a DNS server for use by the controller. This is required if a DNS name is being used for the connection.
